At LG Health, nursing students do not need to wait to get started on their nursing career. We offer opportunities to learn more about your future career through shadowing experiences on units, externships and paid positions. Each option has flexible schedules to allow you to focus on your education.
Student Nurse Patient Care Assistants
Student Nurse Patient Care Assistants float to a variety of nursing units including: Medical/Surgical, Cardiac Telemetry, Critical Care and Maternity. Students assist with the delivery of direct, non-licensed patient care, under the supervision and guidance of appropriate personnel. The Student Nurse Patient Care Assistants also help support our commitment to patient safety and quality outcomes. This is a great opportunity to learn more about units where you would want to start your nursing career, and network with future co-workers. Connect with us if you're interested in learning more.
Student Nurse Extern
LG Health is dedicated to providing a supportive and collaborative environment to help nursing students enhance their clinical knowledge and help prepare them for their future transition from student to novice nurse. The Student Nurse Extern Program enhances a student’s clinical experience and provides the unique opportunity to utilize the clinical assessment and patient care skills you have gained in your nursing education.
The externship is an 8 ½-week fulltime, day shift summer program that begins in early June and ends in early August. The Student Nurse Extern (SNE) will be assigned to registered nurse preceptors in two different clinical sites (4 week rotations) and benefit from their clinical expertise. The SNE will have the opportunity to observe diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as well as learn how ancillary departments work with nursing to provide quality care to each patient. This experience will give the SNE the opportunity to perform basic nursing procedures and observe and assist a registered nurse with advanced procedures. A nursing faculty facilitator will also be available as a mentor to support and assist in enhancing your nursing skills. These positions get posted in the fall for students to apply. Please check back at that time. If you would like additional information regarding our extern program, please connect with us.
Shadow Opportunities
Shadowing allows you to set up a time to tour a specific unit, network with staff, and spend time with an RN to see what their day is like. This is a great way to experience an area to see if it is a fit for you. To learn more about a shadow opportunity, e-mail RecruitLGH@lghealth.org.
