Job Description

Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health Physicians – Hospitalist Group is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to lead advanced practice providers within an already well-established hospitalist program composed of nearly 40 advanced practice providers and over 50 physicians.   As the APP Manager, you will collaborate with the managing clinician to provide oversight of practice operations and strategic planning, student rotations, practice specific onboarding and retention initiatives of new APPs, and career development of existing APPs across clinical best practices, education, leadership, and professional development. The advanced practice providers within the hospitalist group will directly report to the APP manager.

This position will include 0.5 FTE dedicated to the manager role and 0.5 FTE of clinical requirements within the hospitalist team. The clinical shifts are 10-hour shifts with a 7 on, 21 off with occasional evening swing shifts functioning as a primary rounder, admitter/consultant, discharging with some cross-coverage duties. Procedures are not required.

As part of our hospitalist team, you have the opportunity to practice within a well-supported environment to coordinate and provide medical care for hospitalized patients with the care team. The hospitalists program has service lines that extend to include inpatient, observation, rehab and a dedicated nocturnist team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of Manager Role: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

Practice Operations and Strategic Planning:

Serves as a liaison between the APP providers and the Managing Clinician

Student Rotations:

Coordinates with Associate APP Director and Academic Affairs team to schedule and oversee APP student rotations and develop practice specific improvements for student rotations

Onboarding and Retention:

Oversee the onboarding of any new APP to the practice, coordinating training schedules and educational activities.

Participates in recruitment, selection, onboarding and retention of APPs. Duties include ensuring proper orientation, education, credentialing and CME’s for APPs.

Career Development of Existing APPs:

Completes the APP annual performance reviews for the Advance Practice Providers (APPs) to Magnet Standards.

Creates Professional Development plans with each APP in the practice that aligns across clinical best practices, education, leadership, and professional development (inclusive of research)

Job Requirements

Nurse Practitioner

  • Valid Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Nurse
  • Certification by ANCC or other qualifying agency in area of specialty required (Acute Care NP certification required).
  • Valid Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner license and Certificate of Prescriptive Authority in Pennsylvania
  • Credentialed by the medical staff in accordance with current policy and procedure.
  • Effective August 1st, 2023, the certification of the nurse practitioner must align with the population the nurse practitioner will primarily be caring for unless otherwise determined by the Chief Nursing Officer and in accordance with hospital practice needs.

Physician Assistant

  • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant by PA Board of Medicine
  • Graduate of Accredited Physician Assistant training program

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer at least 2 years experience in hospital medicine
  • Teaching experience
  • Leadership/Management experience
